Role Summary:
The Liability Claims Adjuster is tasked with the assessment and management of minor to moderate commercial claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess coverage as new claims are reported.
- Handle claims internally, which includes investigating, evaluating, negotiating, documenting, and concluding claims within the designated authority.
- Collaborate with legal representatives in defending insured parties and participate in mediations and trials as necessary.
- Engage with relevant stakeholders (such as insured individuals, claimants, agents, attorneys, repair facilities, and lien holders) as required.
- Oversee approved independent adjusters and attorneys in the field with management oversight.
- Establish and maintain reserves, communicating with management as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree along with three years of relevant experience is required, or five years of experience in claims handling. An adjuster's license is mandatory. Internal candidates must secure managerial approval prior to application submission.
Skills and Knowledge:
A minimum of three years of adjusting experience and a Bachelor's degree are required, or five years of claims handling experience. Candidates should possess a foundational understanding of insurance and tort law, along with basic legal principles and terminology relevant to insurance operations. Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures is also essential. Proficiency in computer applications (including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, and email) is required.
Physical and Work Environment Considerations:
Regular use of vision, hearing, and communication skills (both oral and written) is necessary. Frequent activities include concentration, standing, walking, handling, reaching, and grasping. Occasional bending, kneeling, and lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required. The role involves extensive use of computers and office equipment.
Travel and Hours:
Occasional travel may be necessary, and periodic work outside of standard business hours or on weekends could be required.
