Position Overview:
As a Front-End Waste Transport Specialist, you will be responsible for operating front-end trucks that service various multi-family residential and commercial routes. Your primary duty will involve the removal and transportation of waste or recyclables, ensuring compliance with customer contracts. You will be tasked with servicing multiple clients daily according to assigned routes, transferring waste to designated stations, landfills, or drop-off locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate commercial frontload or ancillary equipment along specified routes to mechanically collect solid waste and transport it to post-collection facilities.
- Access container enclosures or gates to retrieve waste containers, rolling 3-4 yard cans into position for dumping as necessary.
- Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections, completing and submitting a vehicle condition report at the end of each shift.
- Engage courteously with customers and the public along the route, addressing inquiries and notifying supervisors of any issues requiring management attention.
- Maintain cleanliness by removing loose trash from the truck and surrounding area during the dumping process, ensuring a tidy customer site and safe road conditions.
- Maintain and submit required documentation, including a DOT logbook, daily route/productivity sheets, and vehicle condition reports, in accordance with legal and company policies.
- Skillfully maneuver the truck in and out of tight spaces, utilizing mirrors for backing up.
- Utilize key maps and GPS technology to locate service addresses effectively.
- Adhere to safe operating practices, including lockout/tagout procedures, to ensure the proper functioning of the vehicle.
- Monitor operations for loose debris, using mirrors or direct sight, and visually inspect customer sites before and after dumping.
- Comply with all DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and EPA regulations and standards.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Minimum of one year of commercial driving experience or possession of a CDL school certificate.
- Ability to meet safety-sensitive function criteria as per company standards.
- Demonstrated capability to safely operate the truck and associated equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of truck components and basic maintenance requirements for safe operation.
- Ability to control equipment operations and maneuver the truck in confined spaces, using mirrors for distances of approximately 120 feet or more.
- Ability to identify unacceptable waste materials, such as flammable substances.
- Effective communication skills with both internal and external customers.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and comprehending related documents and maps.
- Ability to follow both oral and written instructions accurately.
- Flexibility to adapt to changes and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Physical capability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds using proper techniques.
- Coordination of limbs while standing or sitting.
- Adherence to all company safety policies and procedures.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to perform various physical activities, including standing, walking, reaching, and climbing.
- Visual requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception.
- Regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
- Prolonged sitting may be required due to driving responsibilities.
- Ability to work in typically loud environments.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to loud noise, humidity, and varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- Work primarily in outdoor settings.
- Continuous travel away from the branch location throughout the day.
- Occasional work in high or precarious places.
- Constantly navigate motor vehicle traffic conditions.
- Typically loud work environment.
