Job Description

The Panel Line Operator is responsible for setting up and operating the panel line, ensuring that production and quality measurements are documented at the employee workstation. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, as the Panel Line Operator must troubleshoot and make necessary corrections when process issues occur. The Panel Line Operator also trains other employees and works to maintain a safe, clean, and clutter-free production area.

Essential Functions
  • Set up the panel line
  • Read specifications carefully
  • Use a clamp truck to obtain roll stock and load the roll stand
  • Adjust nip rollers, compression table, and heat deck
  • Adjust glue rollers according to specification
  • Adjust slitter blades to specification (oilers, hold-downs, shoes)
  • Set the cut-off saw to the correct length
  • Set the machine speed
  • Set up the printer
  • Sharpen blades as needed
  • Notify the Material Handler when and what type of core is needed
  • Splice rolls with the machine running
  • Perform Vorne board scanning
  • Operate the bandsaw
  • Adjust speeds and air pressure accordingly to run
  • Work with the Material Handler
  • Operate the stretch wrapper
  • Check the glue bond lamination
  • Check specifications (length, width, depth, paper weight, core size, cell size)
  • Check for proper expansion of core
  • Check paper alignment
  • Check slit scores
  • Check cookie cut depths
  • Check quantities per bundle and pallet according to order
  • Check for properly labeled pallets
  • Maintain guards in place before running an order
  • Perform housekeeping duties, including the removal and replacement of full scrap
  • Understand and follow safety requirements, including proper lock-out/tag-out procedures
  • Follow proper emergency procedures
  • Wear personal protective equipment at all times
  • Keep glue pans and barrel full
  • Keep ink in the printer
  • Splice paper
  • Keep track of waste
  • Show leadership through self-motivation and support of/and cooperation with others
  • Use decision-making skills to effectively organize and plan
  • Responsible for training and working closely with temporary labor
  • Assist in other areas of the plant as needed
  • Other duties as directed by the supervisor
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to products and processes
  • Identify and record any problems relating to products and processes
  • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels
  • Control further processing and delivery of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected
Position Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Experience:
    • Read a tape measure and caliper
    • 2 years of machine operation experience
    • Forklift experience is required, training will be provided. Forklift certification is a plus
    • Paper, plastics, and extrusion experience is a plus
    • Experience with certain software or computer systems, etc.
  • Must be motivated and willing to learn new tasks
  • Team environment
  • Able to work in a fast-paced work setting
