Job Summary:

The Clinical Nurse will provide safe, competent, and quality care to a designated group of patients and their significant others. This role requires a strong foundation in nursing theory and research, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver patient care by incorporating the principles of Relationship Centered Care and the nursing process.
  • Assess and evaluate patient care needs, applying critical thinking skills to manage patient care.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care.
  • Prioritize patient care, including teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning for after-hospital care, while delegating to others as needed.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Manage assignments within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing, demonstrating effective allocation of resources.
  • Role model the tenets of Mount Sinai Relationship Centered Care, facilitating actions such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, and Purposeful Hourly Rounding.
  • Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients and families, using evidence-based practices to increase understanding of patient perceptions of care.
  • Initiate service recovery for patients and families who have concerns, escalating to Clinical Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager/Nursing Administrator or Patient Relations as needed.
  • Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening through dialogue, body language, and actions.
  • Support staff use of evidence-based practices to increase understanding of patient perceptions of care.
  • Conduct Purposeful Hourly Rounding (PHR) on assigned patients, addressing the 4 Ps.
  • Practice safe and efficient patient-centered care, identifying and escalating barriers and opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served.
  • Implement process improvement strategies based on institutional, evidence-based practices, and procedures.
  • Engage in formal and informal peer and institutional review processes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research studies.
  • Contribute to quality and safety practices and required compliance measures.
  • Implement principles of high reliability to identify and avoid high-risk behaviors, providing a safe environment for patients.
  • Utilize institutional information technology to document nursing practice, supporting quality and performance improvement.
  • Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate with the Clinical Coordinator/Clinical Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager/Nursing Administrator to ensure supplies are appropriately utilized and inventory is sufficient for patient care.
  • Escalate material or staffing resource deficits to charge nurse, Clinical Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager, or Nursing Administrator.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing preferred.
  • Associate degree in nursing considered with relevant experience and/or active matriculation in a BSN program, approved by the Chief Nursing Officer or designee.
  • Relevant clinical competence in the area of nursing practice assigned.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Med-surg nursing.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse with current registration in New York State.
  • Basic Life Saver (BCLS) from AHA.
  • Certification: NRP (Labor and Delivery, NICU department).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ACLS (in ED; PACU/ASU; ICUs; Telemetry Units; SDU; IR, Interventional Cardiology (CCL/EP/Echo); L&D; Endoscopy, and APN Adult Oncology)
  • PALS (in ED; PACU; IR; Peds ICU, and APNs Pediatric Oncology departments)
