Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transition Specialist to join our team at Newton Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the Community Connections Post-Graduate Program, providing support and guidance to students with disabilities as they transition from high school to post-secondary education and employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and evaluate program staff to ensure effective delivery of transition services
  • Collaborate with high school teachers, special education department heads, and administrators to identify students in need of transition services
  • Develop and implement individualized transition plans, including employment, post-secondary education, and community training
  • Provide training and support to teachers, parents, and students on transition topics, including self-determination, SSI benefits, and adult service agencies
  • Ensure students are referred to adult funding sources and connections are made prior to aging out
Qualifications
  • Massachusetts DESE licensure as an Administrator of Special Education
  • Massachusetts DESE Transition Specialist Endorsement
  • Master's Degree or higher in special education administration or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in transition services
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special education regulations
Work Environment

The successful candidate will work in a school and community environment, with regular travel required. The ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds is necessary.
