Job Description

This position oversees security operations for assigned shifts, scheduling direct labor, training of Special Police Officers, collaboration with nursing leadership, and conducting investigations. The Lieutenant assumes full law enforcement authority outside of normal business hours to ensure hospital safety.

Responsibilities
  • Oversight of security operations during assigned shift.
  • Scheduling with emphasis on managing direct labor.
  • Training of all Special Police Officers.
  • Collaboration with nursing leadership on security operations.
  • Conducting investigations for crimes against persons or property.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associate's Degree.
  • 2 years of experience in lieu of education, supervisory experience in a hospital security setting or accredited law enforcement organization.

Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Supervisory experience in security or law enforcement.
  • Experience in scheduling for shift work with ability to analyze direct labor.
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral.
  • Knowledge of MS Office.

Preferred Licenses and Certifications
  • Special Police Officer Commission from the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention certification.
  • CPR Certification.
  • ASP/MEB Baton Certification.

Organizational Accountabilities
Environment
  • Maintain daily patrols of the hospital to ensure officers are on post and performing duties properly.
  • Assign personnel to patrol the hospital per policy.
  • Evaluate the quality of patrols through a consistent review of the patrol management system database.
  • Implement security management plans, protocols, and directives as prescribed.

Emergency Response
  • Ensure timely and appropriate response by security personnel.
  • Follow applicable policies, procedures, and directives during emergencies.
  • Direct security personnel engaged in incident and emergency response.
  • De-escalate volatile situations using department-trained techniques.

Reporting
  • Ensure officers submit timely and accurate incident reports.
  • Review reports for quality and informational accuracy.
  • Conduct investigative follow-up for incidents reported during the shift.

Communication
  • Ensure accurate and thorough information exchanges with reliving supervisors.
  • Document pertinent information in the End of Shift Report.
  • Provide professional roll call informational exchanges with subordinates.
  • Communicate emergent situations to hospital administration and department management.
