Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidates will:

  • Decommission outdated forest access routes through advanced decompaction and recontouring methods.
  • Operate small to mid-sized excavators efficiently and safely.
  • Establish necessary water crossings during restoration efforts.
  • Seed and replant areas post-decommissioning to promote ecological recovery.
  • Transport fuel and supplies to remote work sites as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and communicate any needs to supervisors.
  • Safely operate ATVs and UTVs in various terrains.
  • Ensure safety protocols and effective communication are upheld at all times.
  • Work independently in remote locations while maintaining efficiency and safety.
  • Engage in additional watershed program activities, which may include tree planting, stream surveys, culvert replacements, water temperature monitoring, and outreach initiatives.
  • Exhibit professionalism and integrity throughout all tasks.
Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A quick aptitude for acquiring new skills and techniques.
  • Proven experience in the safe operation of excavators.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to pass necessary background checks.
  • A willingness to work extended hours in demanding conditions.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • A foundational understanding of watershed health and functionality.
  • A genuine passion for native fish species and their habitats.
  • The capacity to think critically, remain open to feedback, and adapt accordingly.
Preferred Qualifications

Competitive candidates may also have:

  • Chainsaw operation experience or certification.
  • Experience in trail maintenance or construction.
  • Extensive background in operating heavy machinery.
  • Knowledge of hydrological principles.
  • Basic mechanical repair skills.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Previous experience in leadership or teamwork roles.
