Substation Equipment Specialist

PacifiCorp is seeking a skilled Substation Equipment Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our electrical infrastructure team, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, adjusting, troubleshooting, and repairing substation equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, transformers, regulators, load tap changers, circuit breakers, circuit switchers, motor-operated and manual switches, bus work, wiring, battery banks and chargers, and substation structures.
Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, test, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair substation equipment.
- Operate substation equipment, including switching and grounding.
- Perform testing on substation apparatus such as power factor, transformer turns ratio, megger, ductor, battery load testing, oil sampling, and other analytical tests as assigned.
- Consistently maintain and provide a safe working environment, following safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, actively maintaining and accident-free work place.
- Physical requirements may include working in confined spaces and in elevated work areas such as heights from ladders, structures, scaffolds, buckets, and boom trucks.
- May work independently or with others, occasionally work long hours during emergency conditions, and be responsible for tools, test equipment, and vehicles.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a substation journeyman or a journeyman presently enrolled in the substation journeyman training program in good standing.
- Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- Must complete the substation journeyman training program.
- This position requires a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job. The screening will assess only the identified physical demands of the job being applied for.
- Physical Demands: The job duties of this position require lifting in excess of 75 lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead, carrying in excess of 75 lbs with both hands, and pushing and pulling in excess of 100 lbs of exertional force. Job duties of this position require sustained, awkward positions/postures including bending and twisting at the waist and neck; reaching forward, to the side, across the body, and overhead. Additional requirements of this position include forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects; balancing on one or both legs during dynamic activities; manipulation of large objects during activities requiring balance and sustained awkward postures.
