Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician III to join our team at the State of North Carolina. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and project management abilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of highway construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contractual provisions.
  • Monitor contractor's daily operations and perform and/or review test reports to ensure that all work and materials conform to specifications.
  • Perform contract administration duties such as pay record entry/review, material received reports, certified payroll, haul tickets, as-constructed plans, and monthly estimate.
  • Manage and train lower-level technicians, including Department employees and Contract Construction Inspectors.
  • Resolve daily constructability issues and trouble shoot problems to mitigate delays to contractor's progress.
  • Monitor utility relocation efforts by inspecting and tracking relocation work.
  • Anticipate contractual problems and advise supervisor of the need for plan revisions, supplemental agreements, or other contract adjustments to improve safety, timely delivery, and/or quality of delivered product.
  • Ensure compliance with NC Sedimentation and Pollution Control Act, and that all work performed in permitted areas is done in accordance with the permits.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate work with contractors, subcontractors, utility owners, and property owners to minimize delays and disturbances while maximizing progress of the projects.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of progressive technician level experience.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
  • Experience in conducting independent, moderately complex surveying.
  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
  • Working knowledge of computer equipment, (I-pads, desktop), software (HiCams and Share Point) and mathematical functions.
