Position Overview: The Nutrition Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting a team of acute care dietitians by providing essential clinical support. This position involves conducting nutrition screenings for all patients, adhering to departmental protocols, gathering relevant patient information, and performing low- to moderate-risk nutrition assessments under the guidance of a registered dietitian. The specialist also offers fundamental dietary education to patients, conducts quarterly test tray evaluations, and contributes to nutrition education initiatives for both employees and the community. Collaboration with department personnel is key in periodically reviewing and updating patient menus and nourishment lists.
Key Responsibilities:
Nutrition Screening: Responsible for performing nutrition screenings for all patients and determining nutrition risk levels based on the results. These screenings inform the daily assessment priorities for dietitians, thereby optimizing clinical nutrition workflows. Assists in identifying malnutrition through nutrition-focused physical examinations.
Data Gathering: Collects essential data on patients who require nutrition assessments, which may encompass acceptance of nutritional supplements, dietary intake, weight measurements, and more. Facilitates monthly test tray evaluations and communicates findings to the department leadership and staff.
Patient Education: Conducts nutrition assessments for patients identified as low nutrition risk under the supervision of a registered dietitian. Provides essential dietary education to suitable patients prior to their discharge. Maintains documentation in patient medical records utilizing the Nutrition Care Process. Represents the Clinical Nutrition team at various employee and community educational events. Facilitates classes such as community heart failure and pre-operative orthopedic sessions.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Engages in interdisciplinary rounds and participates in patient care meetings to ensure comprehensive care delivery.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics is required. Alternatively, candidates with an Associate's degree and a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR or NDTR) will be considered. Preference will be given to those with a Dietetic Technician, Registered certification. Membership in The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics is preferred, along with Serve Safe certification.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $28.27 per hour.
Pay Grade: 18
Compensation may vary based on overall experience, qualifications, shift, and location.
