Tax Senior Manager, Private Client Services Specialist

Job Summary:

BDO's Private Client Services is a boutique practice that offers a high-touch approach to serving high net worth individuals, their families, and other complex tax and financial structures. Our team provides expert tax consulting and compliance services, including estate, income, gift, and trust tax consulting, charitable giving, executive compensation, and cash-flow planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage tax and consulting engagements, identifying client needs and tax planning opportunities.
  • Provide executive presence and serve as primary client contact for issue resolution.
  • Review complex tax returns and provide feedback to preparers.
  • Direct communication with government agencies on complex matters.
  • Conduct advanced tax research and develop recommendations for clients and leadership.
  • Prioritize and review work to ensure engagement success.
  • Utilize analytical and critical thinking skills to assist clients with individual and business decisions.
  • Assist with firm contribution responsibilities, including billing, recruiting, and training.
  • Build relationships with BDO professionals and external sources.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise associates and senior associates on projects.
  • Review work prepared by associates and provide feedback.
  • Train associates and seniors on software tools.
  • Act as a career advisor to associates and seniors.
  • Schedule and manage workload of associates and seniors.
  • Provide performance feedback to associates and seniors.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, preferred.
  • Masters in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred.

Experience:

  • Seven or more years of experience in accounting, finance, or law, required.
  • Experience in private client services, required.
  • Prior supervisory experience, required.
  • Experience working in public accounting, preferred.

License/Certifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential, Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) credential, or equivalent, required.
  • Possession of other professional degrees or certifications, preferred.

Software:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat, required.
  • Experience with tax compliance process software, preferred.
  • Experience with tax research tools, preferred.

  • Business Development: Develops a network of key financial decision makers, referral sources, and recruits.
  • People Development: Supervises, develops, and trains employees, acts as a career advisor, and delivers holistic feedback.

Compensation:

Individual salaries are determined based on numerous factors, including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

New York City/Valhalla Range: $140,000 - $200,000
