Job Summary:

The Swim Instructor 1 is responsible for teaching swim lessons, ensuring the safety of swimmers, and promoting participation in the Y Swimming Lessons program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach swim lessons to participants of all ages and skill levels, following the YMCA of the USA Aquatic Program guidelines.
  • Ensure the safety of all swimmers during lessons and enforce pool rules.
  • Conduct classes efficiently, adhering to standards for progression and evaluating student abilities.
  • Attend all scheduled classes and secure substitutes when necessary, providing lesson plans for substitutes.
  • Assist the Swim Director with administrative tasks and promote participation in the Y Swimming Lessons program.
  • Prepare the program area with necessary equipment and maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Engage with participants, orient them to the program, and assist when not actively teaching.
  • Focus on quality experiences and engagement within programs, services, and activities.
  • Promote a professional image and adhere to the YCM Code of Conduct.
  • Communicate the Y mission and objectives to the community.

Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certification (or O2 within 30 days of hire).
  • Preferred Lifeguard certification.
  • Successful completion and passing of the Y in Central Maryland swim test.
  • Flexible schedule, including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Completion of new associate training (including Child Abuse Prevention) before scheduled to work.
