Job Description Summary:
The Hoglund Biomedical Imaging Center is seeking a Magnetic Resonance Scientist to contribute to a multidisciplinary team engaged in a variety of research initiatives at the University of Kansas Medical Center and the surrounding area. The HBIC fosters a collaborative atmosphere for imaging research involving both animal models and human subjects.

The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in an interdisciplinary research team at the HBIC, collaborating with researchers to transform scientific inquiries into well-structured studies utilizing advanced imaging technologies. A primary focus of the work at Hoglund is to explore metabolic and physiological alterations associated with normal aging and neurological disorders. This research leverages extensive MRS sequence development to quantify metabolites related to oxidative stress, antioxidants, and brain energy metabolism, contributing to investigations in Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, nutrition, and muscle metabolism.

This role involves developing analytical techniques for precise quantification of metabolic imaging signals obtained through magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy (MRS) in partnership with NIH-funded researchers. Candidates should possess strong programming skills along with robust mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. The successful applicant will offer design, data analysis, interpretation, and training support through collaborations with principal investigators on multiple projects. They will utilize their expertise in MR technical development to devise cutting-edge methods to address complex biomedical and clinical challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead initiatives to create a quantitative MRS data analysis framework.

• Collaborate on various studies to:
- Design analysis methodologies and ensure timely availability of rigorous data.
- Train research teams on data analysis techniques.
- Prepare manuscripts, grant proposals, and presentations.

• Manage technical advancements and oversee the progress of team projects.

• Supervise the execution and advancement of research studies.

• Conduct general maintenance, including data storage and management of research databases.

Recent doctoral graduates, post-doctoral fellows, and seasoned professionals are encouraged to apply. This is a staff scientist position supported by Center funds.

Required Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in Bioengineering, Medical Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field. Relevant documented experience may be considered.
  • Familiarity with MR physics, techniques, and signal processing.
  • Proficient computing skills, including programming in C/C++, MATLAB, bash, and other languages.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and writing abilities.
  • Demonstrated organizational and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with MRI/MRS research and operation of MR scanners, including Siemens systems.
