Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY

The Surgical Services Technician is responsible for preparing the surgical environment and assembling necessary instruments for procedures. This role involves delivering tools and materials to the surgical team during operations, assisting the lead surgeon, and ensuring the cleanliness and sterility of the surgical area and equipment after procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

The Surgical Services Technician prepares the operating room and organizes supplies for surgical and endoscopic procedures. Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering instruments to the surgical team.
  • Assisting the lead surgeon as needed.
  • Ensuring proper decontamination of the surgical area and instruments following procedures.
  • Supporting endoscopic cases by assisting surgeons, collecting specimens, and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Training in the decontamination and storage of endoscopic scopes.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the turnover of surgical rooms.
  • Facilitating patient transport.
  • Acting as a communication link between families and surgical staff during critical situations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a recognized surgical technologist program or equivalent military training, or a minimum of 10 years of experience in surgical technology.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • BLS certification.
  • Preferred: Surgical Technologist certification.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills and work independently.
  • Proficient in anticipating the needs of the surgical team and communicating effectively.
  • Capable of identifying and responding to emergency situations safely.
  • Completion of basic skills and competencies in multiple service lines.
  • Ability to scrub in on complex cases within assigned specialties.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent military training, with extensive experience in surgical technology. Knowledgeable in surgical procedures and capable of monitoring sterile fields and providing technical assistance.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position does not involve supervisory duties.
