About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Instrument Specialist to join our team at Prisma Health. As a key member of our Central Sterile Processing Department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by maintaining and processing medical instruments.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of surgical technology and sterile processing principles. You will be responsible for decontaminating, assembling, and sterilizing medical instruments and equipment according to established protocols.

In this role, you will work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure that all instruments are properly prepared for use in patient care. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will help maintain the trust and confidence of our patients and staff.

Responsibilities
  1. Decontamination: Decontaminate medical instruments and equipment using various methods, including ultrasonic cleaners and autoclaves.
  2. Assembly: Assemble and prepare instrument sets according to prescribed procedures.
  3. Sterilization: Sterilize medical instruments and equipment using various types of autoclaves and aerators.
  4. Documentation: Accurately document all activities related to instrument processing, including tray management, biological/chemical test results, and reprocessing steps.

You will also be responsible for reporting any issues or concerns related to instrument processing or equipment maintenance. Your ability to communicate effectively with other team members will be essential in maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

This is a dynamic role that requires a high degree of flexibility and adaptability. You must be able to prioritize tasks, manage your time effectively, and work collaboratively as part of a team.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., surgical technology, health sciences)
  • Certification as a Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician (CSPDT)
  • At least 6 months of experience in a hospital or clinical setting
