Senior Instrument Processing Specialist

In a fast-paced environment, Prisma Health is seeking an experienced and skilled individual to join our team as a Senior Instrument Processing Specialist in Central Sterile. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.
About the Role:
We are looking for an individual who can manage and maintain the sterilization processes, oversee the preparation of instruments and equipment for surgical procedures, and ensure compliance with infection control protocols. As a Senior Instrument Processing Specialist, you will be responsible for supervising and guiding junior staff members, providing training and support to improve their skills and knowledge, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives within the department.
About You:
To be successful in this role, you should have strong communication and leadership skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. A diploma in Surgical Technology or equivalent experience is required, along with certification from a recognized body such as NBSTSA or NCCT. Experience with various sterilization methods, including Sterrad, Steam, and ETO, is also essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Receives, sorts, disassembles, and processes contaminated instruments using established guidelines and protocols.
Assembles all instrument sets following prescribed procedures and accurately documents missing items and labels sets correctly.
Takes action to correct problems with instrument sets and reports any unresolved issues.
Sterilizes instruments, equipment, linen, and supplies using various types of autoclaves and aerators, loading them in a prescribed manner and setting controls to correct specifications.
Completes documentation prior to sterilization and post-sterilization, and maintains accurate records of activities related to instrument set assembly and sterilization.
Assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of management and prioritizes tasks, coordinates, and assigns staff to ensure adequate coverage in each work area.
Reports inappropriate employee behavior to supervisors or manager and observes and interprets biological, mechanical, and chemical monitors relevant to processing/sterilizing, recording results and maintaining required records.
Maintains all responsibilities included in the CST Level I Job Description, including completing annual 15 hours of ST continuing education between Jan 1st - Dec 1st each year.
Working Conditions:
This role requires working in a busy hospital environment, with regular exposure to chemicals and biological substances. Excellent hand-eye coordination and dexterity are necessary due to frequent handling of instruments and equipment. The ideal candidate should be physically fit and able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
