Job Title: Senior Environmental Scientist

Under the direction of the Environmental Program Manager, the Senior Environmental Scientist will direct hatchery program activities involving technical and biological work related to fish production and distribution. The incumbent will provide leadership for hatchery programs at the Feather River Hatchery and the associated Annex Facility, developing partnerships with local governments, state and federal agencies, and non-government organizations. The Senior Environmental Scientist will be responsible for contract management, coordinating hatchery program activities within the region, and monitoring politically sensitive elements of the program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct hatchery program activities, including fish production and distribution
  • Provide leadership for hatchery programs at the Feather River Hatchery and Annex Facility
  • Develop partnerships with local governments, state and federal agencies, and non-government organizations
  • Manage contracts and coordinate hatchery program activities within the region
  • Monitor politically sensitive elements of the program
Requirements:
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work with people and develop cooperative partnerships
  • Broad understanding of biological, political, and legal issues and policies associated with hatchery programs
  • Ability to make independent judgments and take initiative
Working Conditions:

The position requires the use of a computer for several hours each day, completion of office tasks, and attendance at meetings and conference calls. The position may require travel throughout the state, including overnight travel, early mornings, late nights, and work in inclement weather. A valid California driver's license is required to drive to meetings and field sites.
