The Patient Services Representative plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless experience for patients within the healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding communication abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service in a medical setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Reception: Welcome patients with professionalism and courtesy upon their arrival. Confirm and update patient demographic and insurance details as needed. Assist patients in completing necessary registration documentation and securing required signatures.
- Appointment Management: Efficiently schedule patient appointments, ensuring alignment with available time slots and provider schedules. Facilitate the coordination of follow-up visits, referrals, and diagnostic procedures as instructed by healthcare professionals. Confirm appointments with patients through various communication methods.
- Insurance Verification: Assess patient insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits through electronic systems or direct communication with insurance providers. Secure pre-authorizations and referrals for medical services as mandated by insurance policies.
- Patient Interaction: Respond to incoming calls and address patient inquiries promptly and professionally. Provide patients with information regarding appointment scheduling, office policies, and available services. Relay messages to healthcare providers and clinical teams as necessary.
- Administrative Duties: Support administrative functions, including filing, faxing, scanning, and organizing patient records. Ensure the front desk area and waiting room are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion. Carry out additional tasks as directed by practice management or healthcare staff.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's degree or certification in healthcare administration is preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in a customer service or administrative capacity, ideally within a healthcare or medical office context.
- Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, staff, and visitors.
- Strong organizational capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Proficient in utilizing computer software applications, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and office equipment.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance verification processes, and HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with care.
- A compassionate and empathetic approach towards patients and their families.
