Position: Senior Support Specialist
Reports To: Home Director I & II
Classification: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Support Specialist is responsible for ensuring a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for individuals, while adhering to their care plans. This role assists the Community Home Manager or designated Program Supervisor as necessary and administers medication in accordance with state guidelines.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safeguard the health and well-being of individuals served.
  • Assist individuals with medication and treatment plans as required, ensuring compliance with state medication administration guidelines.
  • Educate individuals in maintaining their living spaces through practical demonstrations of basic housekeeping tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness in living areas and assist with laundry duties.
  • Report maintenance needs of the living environment.
  • Support individuals in managing finances, including budgeting and shopping.
  • Assist with daily living activities such as meal preparation, personal hygiene, and community engagement.
  • Contribute to the creation and execution of active treatment plans and support strategies.
  • Handle food and non-food purchases for the home as needed.
  • Prepare nutritious meals.
  • Ensure the upkeep of the home and grounds as requested.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including daily logs and incident reports, in accordance with state regulations and company policies.
  • Implement behavioral programs as trained and required.
  • Support individuals in achieving their personal goals as outlined in their care plans.
  • Identify and manage potential behavioral triggers to ensure a safe environment.
  • Provide transportation for individuals to appointments and activities as needed.
  • Report any incidents or suspected abuse according to company policies.
  • Guide individuals in work-related activities linked to vocational opportunities.
  • Oversee staff in the absence of a supervisor and address urgent matters as they arise.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and verbal communication in English, with the ability to understand instructions and maintain records.
  • A valid driver's license that meets company insurance requirements is preferred.
  • Must meet all state agency requirements, including good standing with the state abuse and neglect registry.
  • Pass a drug screening and background check.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary for data entry and record-keeping.
  • Completion of state medication administration certification and ongoing training is required.
  • Minimum age requirement: 18 years (non-driver) or 21 years (driver).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Regularly move about to coordinate work activities.
  • Lift and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds while assisting individuals.
  • Physically assist individuals as necessary.
  • Remain alert to the needs of individuals served.
  • Occasional exposure to infectious conditions.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.


SUPERVISORY ROLE
  • No direct reports; however, some supervisory duties may be required in the absence of a supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • May work in various settings, both indoors and outdoors.
