Energy Security and Resilience Specialist

Argonne National Laboratory, a leading research institution, is seeking a highly skilled Energy Security and Resilience Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our Decision and Infrastructure Sciences division, you will play a critical role in supporting our national security, energy security, and climate resilience analyses missions.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement methodologies to analyze energy sector data and identify potential risks at federal, state, and global scales.
- Conduct in-depth analysis to research, propose, and write reports on energy security and resilience issues, including defense critical energy infrastructure and other critical energy infrastructure.
- Represent the division as an energy sector subject matter expert and provide technical assistance to sponsors and stakeholders.
- Identify and articulate the value of energy security planning, response, and restoration efforts on behalf of federal, state, and international governments.
- Lead technical assistance efforts to educate the energy sector on climate resilience planning efforts, including collaboration with external electric power organizations, trade associations, consortium, or other industry organizations.
- Interface with subject matter experts to produce assessments and reports for senior government officials.
- Support government sponsors interested in a wide range of domestic and international energy sector threats and hazards.
- U.S. citizenship is required, and the ability to acquire and maintain a Top Secret/SCI or Q/SCI clearance is necessary.
- A formal education in one of the following fields: Energy Systems Engineering, Utility Management, Public Utility Regulation, Public Policy, Public/Government Affairs, Computer Science/Modeling, Physics, Civil Engineering, or related fields.
- Experience working with DOE program offices, DOD energy offices, and/or state and local governments on energy security and climate resilience topics is a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of energy sector supply chains and risk assessment methodologies, as well as experience developing various finished products while adhering to appropriate information security practices.
- Ability to use independent judgment and abstract from specific problems to general solutions/findings.
- Strong oral and written communications skills, including the ability to translate technical information into plain language for different sponsor audiences.
- Skill and experience working on multiple projects simultaneously, including demonstrated project management practices and the ability to manage deadlines and resources.
- Ability to collaborate with team members and lead independent analysis in support of projects.
- A successful candidate must have the ability to model Argonne's Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.
This position can be hired at one of two levels; the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (RD2 or RD3) dependent upon the depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills.
