Youth Rehabilitation Specialist

Transitions Mental Health Association is seeking a dedicated Youth Rehabilitation Specialist to join our team in San Luis Obispo. As a key member of our Youth Treatment Program, you will provide 24/7 support to up to six SLO County Foster Youth in a home-like setting. Our program is centered on the principle that youth heal and behavior changes in the context of adults who are safe, regulated, predictable, empathic, and attuned.
Responsibilities- Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of residents.
- Supervise and interact with residents and staff during program activities, including outings, daily chores, education, and transportation.
- Promote and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities.
- Offer crisis intervention, guidance, counseling, and role modeling.
- Prepare program paperwork, including incident reports, daily task logs, and resident notes.
- Promote cooperation and harmony in the group living situation.
- Organize and transport residents to and from appointments and outings.
- Monitor resident medications and complete accompanying paperwork.
- Complete required in-service training.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role, you must meet at least one of the following requirements:
- Hold a Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree.
- Hold a valid Child Development Teaching Permit.
- Have completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, or Foster and Kinship Care Education and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
- Hold a valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor, or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth.
- Have a valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that you are a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, or tutor.
- Have previously been employed as a full-time staff or served as a volunteer at a group home, STRTP, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year.
- Have relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver.
Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative work style, and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. You must be able to work independently and flexibly, handle intense situations, and display good judgment and decision-making skills. A valid CA Driver's License, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and a DMV driving record that meets TMHA's current vehicle insurance requirements are also necessary.
