Forensic Mental Health Specialist

Special Service for Groups-Project 180 is a leader in the forensic treatment space, offering high-quality, specialized treatment programs that serve thousands of justice-involved individuals.
About the RoleWe are seeking a skilled Forensic Mental Health Specialist to join our team. This individual will be based out of a Los Angeles County courthouse and will work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with diverse stakeholders in pursuit of client diversion and success.
Key Responsibilities- Assess potential program participants and make diversion recommendations to the court.
- Engage potential diversion participants in services, provide brief motivational intervention, and information related to services offered through the RDP program.
- Review collateral information and conduct a clinical interview, including but not limited to mental health diagnosis, readiness for change, and needed community linkages.
- Formulate a diagnosis, comprehensive treatment plan, and recommendations to the court for potential diversion.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of behavioral health treatment resources and the LA County system of care.
- Establish and maintain relationships with community treatment providers and resources.
- A Master's degree in social work or mental health field from an accredited college or university and valid license (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC) or registration (ASW/ACSW, AMFT, APCC) with licensing body.
- Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
- Valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and own vehicle required.
- Must not be on any type of legal supervision (probation or parole).
- Verification of Employment Eligibility and Background Check.
$60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans.
This position requires strong communication and relationship-building skills, cultural competence, resourcefulness, collaboration, adaptability, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have experience working with the forensic and/or dual-diagnosed populations and a strong understanding of trauma-informed services.
