About the Role at Lightspeed Studios

This is a remarkable opportunity for a seasoned and enthusiastic Lead Technical Artist to become an integral part of our in-house team at Lightspeed Studios, contributing to the development of exceptional visuals and technical artistry for an innovative open-world AAA game. We are looking for a proactive individual who can infuse their passion and expertise into the role, working closely with artists, engineers, and cross-disciplinary teams to devise creative and efficient workflows and methodologies for our game development.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Lead and execute technical strategies for the art department, establishing high standards and mentoring junior Technical Artists.
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure the effective technical implementation and oversight of both in-house and outsourced assets.
  • Drive the creation of cutting-edge visuals that enhance and complement the game design.
  • Prototype and develop graphical features that require advanced technical skills.
  • Innovate content creation techniques and workflows to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Work closely with Art, Engineering, and Production teams to fulfill all dependencies and requirements.
  • Assist the Art team in troubleshooting tools and game-related challenges.
  • Optimize the game's performance and memory usage.
Qualifications:
  • In-depth understanding of the content creation pipeline, encompassing modeling, UV mapping, texturing, shading, lighting, FX, rigging, and animation.
  • Proven experience with contemporary game content creation processes.
  • Demonstrated history as a Technical Artist on released AAA titles.
  • Exceptional communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical skills and the capacity to work autonomously.
  • Solid foundation in digital artistry (modeling, shading, lighting, VFX).
  • Extensive knowledge of Unreal Engine, including material creation and Blueprints.
  • Strong proficiency in Linear Algebra and Calculus, crucial for advanced 3D technology applications.
  • Familiarity with real-time physically based rendering (PBR) and materials.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Experience with the Substance suite and/or Houdini.
  • Knowledge of lower-level programming languages such as C++.
  • Understanding of shading languages, e.g., HLSL or GLSL.
  • Extensive scripting experience for DCC applications, e.g., Python or C#.
