Position Overview: The Quality Assurance Chemist plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity and quality of our products through rigorous testing and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts systematic quality assessments on raw materials, intermediate products, and final goods utilizing techniques such as pH measurement, chemical titrations, polarimetry, spectrophotometry, and refractometry.
- Monitors the schedule for incoming raw materials and performs thorough analyses upon their arrival.
- Actively participates in monthly meetings focused on sucrose loss and supports Continuous Improvement initiatives by implementing corrective and preventive measures as necessary.
- Inputs data into various databases and generates reports including Quality Data, Chemical Loss, Blackstrap, Non-taxable, and Technical Reports as required.
- Ensures daily calibration and verification of laboratory equipment, while also overseeing the performance of lab instruments.
- Addresses instrument malfunctions as needed and communicates any performance issues to the laboratory supervisor, including monitoring equipment for sucrose loss.
- Conducts supplementary testing to assist in troubleshooting refinery operations and to address consumer or customer complaints.
- Prepares additional documentation for stakeholders while adhering to high standards of customer service.
- Provides support for microbiology and main laboratory functions when necessary.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of the work area.
- Keeps accurate records and documentation.
- Manages the inventory of reagents, chemicals, and supplies essential for laboratory analyses.
- Ensures adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 Quality Management System standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills: Proficiency in Chemistry, Laboratory practices, Quality Control, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Titration, and ISO standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in an analytical or laboratory setting.
- Experience in quality control is preferred.
- Strong mathematical and scientific skills are advantageous.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
