Mental Health Support Specialist

The Mental Health Technician plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in our behavioral health unit. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will assist in the provision of nursing care to assigned patients through the nursing process (Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation).
Responsibilities- Apply hospital patient care standards to patient care activities.
- Assist in initial admission assessment of patients and collaborate with professional staff in disposition of patients.
- Intervene appropriately with critical patients, such as during escalation, suicidal behavior, and elopement.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the patient's plan of care, based on identified needs, appropriate to patient age, consistent with the physician's plan of care and mutually agreed upon with patient/family.
- Follow policy and procedures to ensure patient safety.
- Perform/assist patient with activities of daily living.
- Communicate and document patient progress/responses toward expected outcome(s) and reports pertinent observations.
- Take temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure as ordered.
- Weigh patients as ordered.
- Develop a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients using counseling interventions to assist patients in coping, fostering mental health, and preventing mental illness or disability.
- Encourage independent behavior in patients.
- Set limits on a patient's behavior at appropriate times.
- Co-lead patient groups when assigned.
- Respond to patient family needs and customer care concerns as soon as possible with compassion and understanding.
- Promote a professional atmosphere through courteous communication with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
- Observe and respect the privacy and confidentiality of information with regards to patients, physicians, and peers.
- Demonstrate mission and values with patients, families, peers, and other members of the health team.
- Collaborate with peers, physicians, and other members of the health team.
- Promote attendance of patients in all therapeutic groups, community meetings, and activities.
- Attend and participate in treatment plan meetings.
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
- Associate degree (Bachelor's preferred) in the Human Services field and/or the equivalent in experience.
