Position Summary
As a Medical Office Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring a positive and efficient experience for patients visiting our family medicine clinic. Your responsibilities will encompass greeting patients warmly, collecting essential demographic and financial information, and preparing medical records for appointments.
Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greet patients, creating a welcoming atmosphere in the clinic setting.
- Register patients and conduct interviews to gather accurate demographic and financial details.
- Input new and updated patient information into our computer system with precision.
- Answer incoming phone calls promptly and professionally.
- Prepare comprehensive medical records for clinic visits by compiling relevant information from various sources.
- Track dictation to ensure that physician notes are received for all patient encounters.
- Collect co-payments and outstanding balances due for services rendered.
- Distribute financial assistance packets and provide basic guidance to patients regarding their financial obligations.
- Refer complex or non-compliant patient financial issues to the appropriate specialist or manager.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical Terminology Certification is preferred.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Word and Excel, keyboarding abilities, and general office equipment operation.
- Ability to read and write in English; bilingualism in Spanish is a plus.
- One to two years of experience in a general or medical office setting, or completion of a medical office program within the last two years. Prior healthcare experience is beneficial.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: Clinic Manager
Work Environment
General office environment with frequent patient interaction and VDT (Visual Display Terminal) exposure. This role may involve potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting are required, along with keyboard usage adhering to ergonomic principles. Flexibility in work schedule is essential.
