OVERVIEW

This position is essential in driving sales through comprehensive product knowledge, effective merchandising, and precise inventory management. The Inventory Control Associate will oversee incoming product shipments and coordinate work schedules to guarantee adequate delivery coverage. Additionally, this role involves maintaining the organization of the backroom by accurately processing freight and diligently tracking physical inventory to ensure a steady flow of products to the sales floor. This team member will be responsible for the annual physical inventory of the store. By embodying JOANN's core values, the Inventory Control Associate will thrive in their position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT

  • Welcomes every customer and utilizes the F.A.S.T. service model to address their needs.
  • Asks insightful questions to understand customers' project requirements and guides them to the appropriate product locations.
  • Engages in friendly discussions with customers about their projects while assisting them at the cutting counter, cash register, and sales floor.

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT

  • Conducts regular physical inventory counts throughout the backroom and sales floor to ensure all items are accounted for.
  • Receives and unloads product deliveries with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that freight is organized and undamaged.
  • Processes received freight to confirm that all merchandise is accounted for and ready for display on the sales floor.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization in the backroom, upholding high standards of quality in their workspace.
  • Stocks shelves accurately according to the planogram while maintaining productivity and attention to detail.
  • Ensures accurate inventory levels throughout the store.
  • May assist customers at the cutting counter and cash register with efficiency and professionalism.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

  • Collaborates with store management to address inventory discrepancies and optimize product flow.
  • Displays merchandise in a manner that attracts customer attention and boosts sales.
  • Completes planogram setups and ensures their accuracy throughout the store.
  • Continuously seeks improvements in processes to enhance inventory flow.

TEAM COLLABORATION

  • Works closely with management to develop a strategic plan for the movement of incoming freight to the sales floor.
  • Communicates the freight plan to team members and encourages store-wide participation in freight management.
  • Partners with management to align scheduled hours with product flow for comprehensive workload coverage.
  • Monitors team members' practices and provides guidance on receiving and stocking policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods during shifts.
  • Regularly walk throughout the store during work hours.
  • Read and interpret written instructions and reports.
  • Communicate verbally with customers and team members consistently.
  • Input data using computer systems and handheld devices.
  • Utilize two-way radios for communication.
  • Push and pull merchandise using appropriate equipment.
  • Lift and arrange items on shelves and racks.
  • Bend and reach as necessary.
  • Climb ladders as required.
  • Individually lift up to 49 pounds and participate in group lifts of up to 97 pounds.

AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Part-time roles require flexible availability to meet store needs, generally working less than 28 hours per week. Full-time positions require open availability with an average of 36 hours per week. Team members must be available for various shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Relocation may be necessary for career advancement.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum Experience: 1+ years in a customer-focused environment

Preferred Experience: 2-3+ years in retail
