Job Summary

As a Medical Assistant in our Urology department, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care. You will assist providers in the administration of patient care, perform general administrative duties, and maintain accurate records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist providers with patient examinations, procedures, and diagnostic studies
  • Perform general administrative duties, including maintaining accurate records and handling patient communications
  • Review charts prior to patient appointments to ensure all necessary lab work and diagnostic procedures have been completed
  • Take vital signs, temperature, pulse, height, weight, and blood pressure, and record them in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Direct patients to examination rooms, assist with preparing patients for examination, and notify providers of patient arrival and readiness for examination
  • Assist providers with patient examinations and procedures, including surgical procedures, GYN exams, diagnostic studies, and treatments
  • Operate and monitor functioning of equipment, hand instruments to providers, and conduct hearing, vision, breathing, and EKG testing
  • Administer medications as directed, perform venipuncture, collect urine specimens, and complete lab tests procedures according to policies and procedures
  • Recognize emergency situations, seek assistance, and intervene appropriately
  • Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors, and adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or eligibility for certification by a recognized medical assisting organization required within 12 months of hire
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) certification required within 12 months of hire
  • Current American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification required within 30 days of hire
  • Six (6) months of medical assistant experience required, or completion of a medical assistant externship required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six (6) months of medical assistant experience in a specialty clinic setting
  • Previous phlebotomy experience
  • Working knowledge of ICD9/10 and CPT coding and insurance procedures
