Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

At HCA/HealthONE, we acknowledge the vital role our Laboratory Departments play in our success. We are looking for a Lab Assistant to help us maintain our standard of high-quality, efficient patient care. Here’s what you can expect in this role:

  • Perform all technical procedures while maintaining knowledge of all relevant protocols and procedures.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing technical procedures, including venipuncture and capillary puncture on patients of all ages.
  • Collect and process specimens from patients of all ages as required. Conduct test requests and document results for patients with various clinical conditions, from healthy outpatients to complex intensive care patients.
  • Assist with clerical duties within the department.
  • Act as a customer service representative for the lab, both over the phone and in person. Conduct necessary function verification of equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with other hospitals, departments, physicians, medical offices, reference laboratories, and patients.

Qualifications for this Role:

  • Preferred phlebotomy certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Healthcare experience as a phlebotomist, ideally 1-2 years, and/or completion of a formal phlebotomy course.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact clearly and concisely with coworkers, physicians, nursing staff, and patients.
  • Demonstrated above-average manual dexterity.
  • Proficient typing skills (minimum of 30 words per minute) on a computer.
