Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist/Specimen Processor to join our team at Intermountain Health. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing while working in a professional medical environment. This is a dynamic and engaging role that requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing using venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick techniques.
  • Identify patients using two patient identifiers and label specimens and specimen containers accurately.
  • Determine the correct priority for STAT, Routine, ASAP, etc. specimen collections and collect and receive specimens into the laboratory.
  • Process, prepare, centrifuge, aliquot, and route specimens to include reference lab, ensuring timely transport and processing of all patient specimens for testing.
  • File patients lab reports, requisitions charges for the business office, and send reports to outside hospitals and clinics.
  • Post charges and reconcile invoices, investigating complex bills as needed.
  • Research and resolve any questionable patient orders, entering patient demographic data accurately.
  • Maintain required lab records and logs, collecting statistics for reports and other clerical duties as directed by manager.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification from one of the following required: RPT (Registered Phlebotomy Technician), AMT PBT (Phlebotomy Technician), ASCP American Sociaety of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), National Association of Phlebotomy Technicians (NAPT), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Nationa Phlebotomy Association (NPA), American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals (ACA), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT), National Healthcare Certification Association (NHCO).
  • Six (6) months of laboratory experience preferred.
Working Conditions

This role requires regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts. May be required to work at other SCL sites. Knowledge of the collection of Therapeutic Phlebotomies - St James.

Physical Requirements

Interact with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information, as well as understand spoken information. Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. See and read lab equipment, labels, monitors, and documents. Walk while transporting phlebotomy equipment cart. Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work. Adjust body, including bending, to perform phlebotomy work.
