Robotics Mechanical Plastics Design Engineer

The Tesla Robotics Team is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in building our ambitious vision for humanoid bi-pedal robots into reality. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for designing mechanical components and assemblies with a focus on achieving high precision through high-volume production methods.
Key Responsibilities:- Design mechanical components and assemblies with a focus on precision and technical rigor
- Determine component-level mechanical requirements from functional product specifications
- Apply analytical methods, including calculations and simulations, for the design and optimization of structures and mechanical components
- Perform tolerance analysis to determine system impacts of assembly fits and backlash
- Work directly with injection molding suppliers and tool designers to adapt part designs for manufacturability
- Drive every phase of product launch, including part design, tool design/moldflow, tool trial and validation, process certification, and quality approvals
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or Mechatronics or equivalent industry experience
- Experience shipping consumer-grade products at rates in the millions of units per year (injection molding preferred)
- Deep knowledge of material science and high-volume manufacturing processes (injection molding, casting preferred)
- Proficiency in designing parts and assemblies using 3D modeling software (CATIA preferred)
- Proficiency in drafting engineering drawings and conducting tolerance stack-up analysis (GD&T required)
