Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist I to join our team at Children's National Hospital. As a key member of our respiratory care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our respiratory therapy services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain various types of mechanical ventilators, airway management equipment, and administer medical gas therapy as needed.
  • Administer respiratory therapy inhaled medications, bronchopulmonary hygiene/drainage, and assist with breathing exercises.
  • Evaluate the effects of respiratory therapy treatments by observing, noting, and evaluating patient progress, recommending adjustments and modifications.
  • Educate patients and their families about their conditions and teach appropriate disease management techniques.
  • Transport mechanically ventilated patients internally and externally.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending continuing education workshops.
  • Document patient care services received in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Inspect, clean, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
  • Minimum six months post-graduate experience in all aspects of respiratory care, including critical care background.
  • Neonatal/pediatric experience preferred.
  • Must meet DC licensure requirements and hold Certified Respiratory Therapist (C.R.T.) certification.
  • BLS and PALS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • NRP/ACLS/NPS certification preferred.
Working Environment

This job operates in a hospital environment, requiring the ability to lift 25 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
