Job Summary

The University of Kentucky is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit as a Critical Care Specialist. This role involves providing individualized care to adult patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes.

You will have the opportunity to work with patients ranging from 15 years of age and older, addressing isolated head trauma, ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, spinal cord injury, anoxic brain injuries, and other diseases of the brain and spinal cord. As a key member of our critical care team, you will be responsible for delivering direct patient care, ensuring patient satisfaction, and utilizing the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate comprehensive nursing plans of care.
  • Deliver direct patient care, ensuring patient satisfaction and adhering to University policies and procedures.
  • Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (NCTs).
  • Collaborate with physicians to enhance patient outcomes.

Skills and Knowledge:

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Expertise in hemodynamic monitoring, medication management, and ventilator support.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, colleagues, and physicians.
  • Knowledge of Maslow's eight Basic Human Needs and Gordon's Functional Health Patterns Framework.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Salary and Benefits:

The estimated annual salary for this role is between $70,000 and $90,000, depending on experience.
