GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Student Advocate plays a crucial role in guiding and supporting students to achieve their academic and behavioral goals necessary for progression to the next grade level. This position involves connecting students and their families with essential school and community resources, monitoring attendance and disciplinary actions, and facilitating communication among administration, counselors, students, and families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication with students and their families to foster a strong school-family partnership.
  • Assess student progress through careful evaluation of attendance, academic performance, and behavioral data.
  • Collaborate with community partners to enhance available resources.
  • Conduct home visits to gather relevant information regarding students.
  • Maintain precise records of interactions with students, parents, staff, and community contacts.
  • Engage in stakeholder conferences to formulate student action plans.
  • Assist in supervising students during both instructional and non-instructional periods.
  • Promote a positive school environment through interactions with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Uphold confidentiality when handling sensitive information related to students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Participate in physical activities that may include frequent standing or walking.
  • Encourage social and emotional development among students.
  • Enhance professional skills through ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Attend staff meetings at both the site and district levels.
QUALIFICATIONS
To successfully fulfill this role, an individual must demonstrate the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some college education is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENT
Responsible for technology provided by the school.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to compose reports and business correspondence; Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from groups of managers, students, families, staff, community resources, and the general public.

PUBLIC CONTACT
Engages in extensive interactions with various sectors of the public; where the importance of these contacts is significant, and poor judgment could lead to substantial consequences for the organization.

EMPLOYEE CONTACT
Interacts with other departments or offices and frequently with individuals in mid-level positions; consulting on issues that require judgment and tact to gain cooperation or approval for actions to be taken. Also involves important contacts with associates as needed in advanced supervisory roles, along with frequent interactions with senior-level internal officials.
