Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Operating Room Technician to join our team at Advocate Health. As an OR Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical services, providing exceptional patient care, and collaborating with our multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personalized patient care, including bathing, oral and denture care, shaving, back rubs, and skin care, under the direction of the Team Leader.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including positioning, ambulation, ROM, and special transferring needs.
  • Respond to patient calls and requests, or refer to the appropriate person.
  • Collect, prepare, and transport patient specimens as directed by the Team Leader.
  • Assist physicians with bedside procedures as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
  • Perform oral suctioning using a yankauer suctioning instrument, as delegated by the RN.
  • Participate in the Admission/Discharge/Transfer process of all patients under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designee.
  • Process therapeutic and diagnostic orders, including transcribing orders, notifying the patient care team and ancillary departments, and determining priority and scheduling patient procedures/tests.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of the patient's medical record, including verifying demographic information, assembling charts, and maintaining patient medication records.
  • Develop and maintain technical skills by attending mandatory unit inservices and participating in the 5.4 Continuous Quality Improvement Process.
Requirements
  • CPR certification.
  • CMA or CNA or LPN or Paramedic or CST or equivalent licensure, registration, or certification.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Nursing Student with first clinical completed, or Certified Medical Assistant or Paramedic or LPN or Certified Scrub Tech.
  • 1 year experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic computer keyboard functions is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Courteous and professional interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates responsible and ethical behaviors consistent with the Advocate values.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to rotate shifts to provide coverage.
  • Exposure to various contagious diseases, radiation, chemicals, caustic materials, electrical equipment, and hazards associated with their use.
  • Demands which require walking, standing, bending, and lifting throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. or more may be required.
