Patient Care Duties

As an OB Technician with Advocate Health, you will provide general patient care duties under the direction of the Team Leader. Key responsibilities include:

• Providing personal care, such as bathing, oral and denture care, shaving, back rubs, and skin care.
• Assisting patients with activities of daily living, including proper positioning, ambulation, ROM, and special transferring needs.
• Managing toileting needs, including toileting cues, care of incontinent patients, proper use of diapers, and identification of patients at risk for skin breakdown.
• Responding to call lights and patient requests, or referring to appropriate personnel.

Care and Maintenance

You will also be responsible for the care and maintenance of indwelling catheters or tubes, collecting, preparing, and transporting specimens as directed by the Team Leader, and assisting physicians with bedside procedures as delegated by the Registered Nurse.

Admission/Discharge/Transfer Process

Participating in the Admission/Discharge/Transfer process of all patients under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designee. Key responsibilities include:

• Setting up patient rooms.
• Orienting patients and families to the room, including physical layout, call lights, bed functions, TV use, and telephone.
• Obtaining vital signs, including height and weight.
• Ensuring all patient belongings are accounted for and documented during admission/transfer/discharge.

Computer Skills

Proficiency in computer skills is essential for this role, including:

• Entering data into the computer, such as diets, transfers, discharges, and updates on nurse revision screens.
• Processing patient charges for services.
• Maintaining accurate databases, including clinical data screens, consulting MDs, and allergies.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

As an OB Technician with Advocate Health, you will require:

• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Courteous and professional interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated responsible and ethical behaviors consistent with the Advocate values.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to rotate shifts to provide coverage, exposure to contagious diseases, radiation, chemicals, caustic materials, electrical equipment, and hazards associated with their use. Demands include walking, standing, bending, and lifting throughout the day, with the ability to lift 50lbs or more may be required.
