Job Title: Engineering Manager

At New York City Growth - Highgate Hotels, we are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our engineering department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director of Engineering with daily operations and ensure the hotel is in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Develop and implement plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in a safe and acceptable state of repair.
  • Supervise and train engineering staff in customer service, empowerment, standard operating procedures, and loss prevention.
  • Create and post engineering staff schedules and manage the department's annual budget.
  • Assist in developing financial forecasts and participate in monthly profit/loss review meetings.
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs for all hotel equipment and ensure emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested, and certified.
  • Actively participate in energy conservation programs and review guest and meeting planner comment cards to identify and correct problems in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and assist with the administration of all vendor contracts controlled by the engineering department.
  • Handle room maintenance requests promptly and courteously and follow up on all alarms to determine the exact location and cause.
  • Assist with special projects and renovations and support and participate in all Highgate Hotel programs.
  • Lead and/or participate in the Highgate Hotel Safety Committee.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of supervisory or lead mechanic experience in a hotel or a related field or a technical certificate with at least 1 year of supervisory or lead mechanic experience.
  • Stationary engineer's license if required by local code.
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance skills required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Long hours sometimes required.
  • Heavy work - exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all levels of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing nametags.
  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to understand and evaluate complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
