Join the Department of Fish and Wildlife as a Fish and Wildlife Technician and contribute to the conservation and management of California's natural resources. As a key member of our team, you will assist in implementing management plans on Ecological Reserves and Wildlife Areas, including planning and completing wildlife habitat maintenance and restoration activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain dirt roads, fences, and water supply systems
  • Post boundaries and control vegetation
  • Perform general building, facility, and equipment maintenance
  • Operate and maintain automotive, farming, and construction equipment
  • Work with power and hand tools
  • Participate in fish and fish habitat surveys and management projects
  • Assist biologists or other research personnel in collecting wildlife census and habitat condition data

  • Transfer eligibility or passing the Fish and Wildlife Technician exam
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and remote locations
  • Ability to complete physical labor, including digging trenches, painting, and light construction
