Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Aquatic Fitness Specialist is tasked with designing and leading safe and effective water-based fitness sessions. This role involves providing direction and support to participants, ensuring correct techniques and movements, along with the safe utilization of any necessary equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Main Duties

  • Exhibit expertise in executing safe and suitable exercise routines tailored to the class format.
  • Create an engaging and enjoyable atmosphere for participants.
  • Prepare and conclude scheduled sessions, including setup and takedown activities.
  • Maintain a positive interaction with participants, members, and colleagues.
  • Effectively manage unforeseen circumstances or emergencies, escalating issues to a supervisor when required.
  • Adhere to universal safety protocols concerning bodily fluids in line with First-Aid, CPR, and AED training.
  • Document incidents through reports following any occurrences.

Additional Duties

  • Introduce new music for classes at least every ten weeks.
  • Engage in and promote YMCA special events.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Prioritize safety and enjoyment, fostering positive relationships with members.
  • Arrange for a qualified substitute if unable to fulfill a scheduled shift.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current CPR/AED and First-Aid certifications are mandatory.
  • Certification as a Water Exercise Instructor from a recognized national body is required.
  • Excellent communication and listening abilities.
  • A passion for building relationships with individuals including members, staff, volunteers, donors, and community leaders.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be capable of spending extended periods in a swimming pool or on the pool deck.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for prolonged durations while remaining alert.
  • May require bending, kneeling, leaning, and running.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids; must be able to administer first aid.
  • Ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Effective verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Visual and auditory capabilities to respond to critical situations, along with the physical ability to act swiftly in emergencies.
  • Employee must be physically capable of demonstrating fitness routines and illustrating correct body movements.
