Assistant Manager

The Assistant Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of a Black Cap Coffee and Bakery shop. Reporting directly to the Store Manager, this individual is responsible for maintaining high standards of customer service, product quality, and visual merchandising. The Assistant Manager assists the Store Manager in achieving business objectives, including providing excellent customer experiences and ensuring staff are well-trained and equipped to meet customer needs.
Key Responsibilities:- Delegating Tasks: The Assistant Manager is responsible for delegating tasks efficiently to ensure staff complete all stocking and cleaning procedures daily. This involves prioritizing tasks, managing time effectively, and ensuring all employees receive timely breaks.
- Training New Baristas: The Assistant Manager is responsible for training new baristas, teaching all required skills, and enforcing the Employee Handbook. This includes reviewing the handbook with new employees, answering questions, and collecting signatures indicating receipt.
- Job Responsibilities: The Assistant Manager performs all barista job responsibilities with proficiency and professionalism, recruits, trains, and supervises cafe staff, guides team members to follow policies and procedures, and ensures employees follow opening, closing, cleaning, food safety, and sanitization procedures.
- Additional Responsibilities: The Assistant Manager coordinates training of new employees, oversees retraining processes, ensures employees complete daily stocking duties, communicates with staff and management via text messages, keeps track of staff breaks, and models excellent customer service.
- Physical Job Requirements: The Assistant Manager must be able to lift 50 lbs up and down stairs multiple times per day, lift 50 lbs off the ground from a squatting position, bend and twist from the waist frequently while carrying 50 lbs, and stand on their feet for up to 8 hours at a time.
- Required Skills & Experience: The Assistant Manager must have strong skills in delegation, leadership, teamwork, customer service, sense of urgency, prioritization, communication, cleanliness/organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking. They must also demonstrate perseverance toward goals, be timely and attentive to work, and have a growth mindset.
The Assistant Manager is expected to be available during peak holiday times, including foliage season, December holiday season, Presidents' Day week, Martin Luther King weekend, and various summer holidays/events as deemed necessary by management.
Salary Description:The Assistant Manager is compensated at a rate of $21-$25/hour.
