Job Overview:

This role primarily involves remote work, with occasional requirements for on-site presentations, training sessions, and workshops. Candidates must reside in the Austin area.

Objective:

As a Provider Education and Audit Specialist, your key responsibility will be to ensure precise and compliant coding practices within the organization. This includes educating healthcare providers on coding standards and conducting regular audits to evaluate coding accuracy and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement educational programs and resources for healthcare providers regarding coding principles, guidelines, and updates. Facilitate training sessions and workshops to improve providers' comprehension and application of coding standards.
  • Organize and carry out annual audits of coding practices across various departments, identifying areas for enhancement and providing constructive feedback to providers and relevant stakeholders based on audit outcomes. Maintain thorough documentation of audit results, compliance issues, and corrective measures taken. Generate reports and presentations that summarize audit findings, trends, and recommendations for improvement utilizing current audit software.
  • Collaborate with revenue cycle management to ensure coding practices are in alignment with organizational policies and regulatory standards, and perform other related functions as assigned. Stay informed about changes in coding regulations and industry standards to ensure educational materials and audit processes remain relevant and effective. Act as a resource and point of contact for coding-related inquiries and issues from providers and internal stakeholders.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with clinical staff, billing specialists, and administrative personnel to encourage accurate and compliant coding practices.
  • Execute other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:

Certification as a Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA), Professional Coder (CPC) through AAPC, or Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA. Demonstrated experience in medical coding, auditing, or coding education within a healthcare environment. Strong understanding of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and other coding systems and guidelines. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to effectively convey complex coding concepts. Detail-oriented with robust analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior coding/auditing experience in a large multi-specialty academic practice. Previous coding/auditing experience in an Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC). Familiarity with MD Audit and Athena.

Salary Range:

$65,000+ depending on qualifications.
