About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Care Counselor to join our Patient Revenue Management Organization at Duke Health. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our revenue cycle processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze patient insurance coverage and benefits to ensure timely authorization and payment.
  • Process patient accounts accurately and efficiently, adhering to departmental protocols.
  • Explain policies and procedures to patients, including PRMO credit and election policies.
  • Implement insurance plan contracts and guidelines, and document billing systems.
  • Assist patients with arranging payment and make referrals for compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Screen patients for government funding policies and procedures, and inform patients of their financial liability.
  • Reconcile daily third-party sponsorship and process reimbursement.
  • Obtain Prior AuthorizationCertification and/or authorizations as appropriate.
  • Determine policy accurately and efficiently, and resolve insurance claim rejections/denials.
  • Compile departmental statistics for reporting purposes.
Requirements
  • High school education with some postsecondary education preferred.
  • Two years of experience working in hospital service access, clinical service access, physician office, or billing and collections.
  • Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field and one year of experience working with the public.
  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience working with the public.
