Position Overview

The primary objective of this role is to act as a principal consultant to the BA TG Commander regarding Training and Education within the United States Air Force (USAF) technical service school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the leading educational consultant and senior management advisor to the commanding officer and staff of a significant technical service school.
  • Represent the technical service school in interactions with various installation and functional area organizations.
  • Provide strategic advice in shaping the comprehensive educational and training policies of the technical service school, leading extensive studies that influence command and USAF missions.
  • Oversee technical and administrative supervision for a small team, typically comprising fewer than five positions, including at least one civilian role.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the specialized experience requirements outlined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, specifically for the GS-1750, Instructional Systems Series.

Basic Requirements:

Candidates must possess a degree that includes or is supplemented by a minimum of 24 semester hours relevant to the position. The coursework must encompass at least four of the following five areas:

  1. Learning Theory and Educational Psychology: Understanding of learning theories related to the systematic design, development, and validation of instructional materials.
  2. Instructional Design Practices: Knowledge of principles and techniques for designing training programs and enhancing instructional effectiveness.
  3. Educational Evaluation: Familiarity with methods for assessing the effectiveness of educational programs, including the development of evaluation instruments.
  4. Instructional Product Development: Skills in creating training materials, identifying learner characteristics, and validating training content.
  5. Computers in Education: Application of technology in educational settings, including the selection of appropriate software.

Specialized Experience:

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent, demonstrating expert knowledge in learning theory and instructional design practices. This includes the ability to lead and guide educational initiatives within a technical service school environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Your qualifications will be assessed based on your knowledge and expertise in the following areas:

  1. Advanced understanding of human learning theories and performance improvement methodologies.
  2. Expertise in testing and evaluation processes to provide technical guidance in training systems.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of instructional systems design principles and their application in training management.
  4. Awareness of safety, security, and personnel management regulations.
  5. Ability to develop evaluation criteria and assess the impact of new technologies on training systems.
  6. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
