The Youth and Family Counselor plays a crucial role in delivering clinical interventions aimed at addressing safety concerns that lead families and youth into treatment. This position emphasizes the use of natural and community supports, along with insights and resources from various professional agencies. As a vital member of an Integrated Decision Team (IDT), which includes a Behavioral Health Case Manager and an IDT facilitator, the Counselor is responsible for developing individualized treatment plans that are strength-based and collaboratively crafted during IDT sessions.

The treatment plan, risk assessment, and clinical interventions are formulated by the IDT, which consists of family members, natural supports, and formal supports who are most familiar with the youth and family. Each IDT participant contributes valuable insights and expertise that shape the treatment strategy and clinical response.

Additionally, the Counselor is tasked with reporting and discussing the progress or challenges faced by the youth or family during IDT meetings, including barriers, interventions, safety concerns, and any other relevant information necessary for addressing the safety issues that necessitate treatment.

The Counselor ensures that services adhere to the principles of trauma-informed care, addressing how trauma affects family dynamics, and that interventions incorporate trauma resolution techniques. Furthermore, the Counselor guarantees that services are culturally and linguistically appropriate, tailored to the unique backgrounds of the child and family. Clinical services are provided in community settings that are convenient and comfortable for the family.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is required.
  2. A minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience working with at-risk populations is necessary.
  3. Must possess sufficient clinical knowledge to provide interventions for both adults and children exhibiting a range of psychological issues, utilizing various therapeutic approaches including individual, family, play, and group therapy, as well as understanding individual psychopathology and normal childhood development.
