The Youth and Family Counselor position is dedicated to providing essential clinical interventions aimed at addressing safety concerns that lead families and youth into treatment. This role emphasizes the utilization of natural and community supports, alongside collaboration with other professional agencies. The Counselor operates as a vital member of an Integrated Decision Team (IDT), which includes a Behavioral Health Case Manager and an IDT facilitator.

In addition to delivering clinical interventions, the Counselor is tasked with developing a personalized treatment plan that is strength-based and collaboratively constructed with all IDT members during the IDT sessions. The treatment plan, risk assessment, and clinical strategies are formulated by the Integrated Decision Team, incorporating insights from the family, natural supports, and formal supports who are familiar with the youth and family dynamics.

Each IDT member, including the youth and family, contributes invaluable knowledge and perspectives that shape the treatment plan and clinical approach. Furthermore, the Counselor is responsible for reporting and discussing the progress or challenges faced by the youth or family during IDT meetings, addressing barriers, interventions, safety concerns, and any other critical information relevant to resolving the safety issues that necessitate treatment.

The Counselor ensures that services adhere to the principles of trauma-informed care, addressing how trauma influences family functioning, and employs trauma resolution techniques in their plans and interventions. It is essential that the services provided are Culturally & Linguistically Competent, tailored to meet the unique cultural needs of the child and family. The Counselor will also ensure that clinical services are delivered in community settings that are convenient and comfortable for the family. This is a field-based position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field is required.
  2. A minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience working with at-risk populations is necessary.
  3. Demonstrated clinical knowledge to provide interventions for both adults and children exhibiting a range of psychological conditions, utilizing various therapeutic approaches including individual, family, play, and group therapy, as well as understanding individual psychopathology and normal childhood development.
