We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to join our team at The Standard, High Line. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for maintaining and supervising the maintenance operations for our hotel, ensuring that all systems and equipment are functioning properly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of maintenance staff, including engineers, mechanics, and coordinators.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and programs to ensure that all equipment and systems are properly maintained and repaired.
  • Conduct regular inspections of hotel facilities and equipment to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as housekeeping and security, to ensure that all areas of the hotel are properly maintained and secure.
  • Develop and manage the department budget, ensuring that all expenses are properly accounted for and that the department is operating within budget.
  • Provide training and guidance to maintenance staff on new equipment and procedures.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are conducted in a safe and efficient manner, with minimal disruption to hotel operations.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid FSD (Fire Safety Director) license for a commercial building.
  • Minimum of 2 years managing and leading others, including a track record of successful communication, budgeting & negotiating, scheduling and staffing.
  • At least 5 years experience in construction, mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, including appliance repair, reading blueprints & power, water and sewer distribution.
  • Must understand building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing principals.
  • Three years in a public contact position, preferably in an upscale or lifestyle brand hotel.
  • Accomplished at delivering world-class 5 star customer service and leading others in delivering outstanding customer service.
  • Proven knowledge & application of codes, laws & regulations pertaining to public buildings and fire, including ADA.
  • Experience operating computer systems for property operations, finance and service tickets.
  • EPA & OSHA Certifications strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Ability to work in team and independently.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain composure in a potentially stressful environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Multi-lingual, Spanish Preferred.
  • Prior work experience in a luxury, lifestyle boutique hotel.
  • Understand the technologies required in the work you are doing directly.
  • Plan and direct the work of others, either directly or through lower-level supervisors.
  • Work with a variety of situations.
  • Solve problems using facts and personal judgment.
  • React quickly in emergency situations and make decisions that may involve a great amount of money or the safety of others.
  • Work with different kinds of people.
  • Be available on nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to work standing for a minimum period of 8 hours a day.
  • Periodical bending, kneeling, and stretching.
  • Able to pull, push, carry and lift at least 40 pounds of force.
  • Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands.
  • Withstanding changes in temperature.
  • Able to climb ladders and tolerate heights.
