We are seeking a highly skilled Safety Specialist to join our team at Freshpet. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance on safety to our leadership team and supervisory personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance on safety to the leadership team and supervisory personnel.
  • Lead employee engagement initiatives to build a strong safety culture.
  • Conduct periodic safety audits, inspections, and behavior-based safety observations.
  • Investigate incidents to determine root causes and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and revise health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Act in an advisory capacity to management and supervisors on matters of injury and illness prevention, industrial hygiene, and environmental regulations/requirements.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver effective health and safety training.
  • Prepare required injury/illness reports for federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Analyze injury/illness trends to determine areas of needed improvement.
  • Perform basic/routine duties in a wide range of environmental, health, and safety disciplines to achieve compliance with safety standards and federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Support the integration of health and wellness programs.
  • Other projects/responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in the environmental health and safety field.
  • Professional Certification (CSP, CIH, ASP, GSP, etc.) from a nationally recognized organization preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of safety experience in a manufacturing environment, environmental health experience is a plus.
  • Fundamental understanding of OSHA General Industry standards.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) preferred.
  • Effective, tactful, and positive communication with all levels of plant and management personnel.
  • Self-starter, works independently, takes initiative.
