We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Rail Facilities Power Superintendent to join our team at King County Metro Transit. As a key member of our Rail Division, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Link Light Rail Facilities electrical systems, including medium voltage sub-stations and Fire Life Safety systems.
Key Responsibilities- Direct work, plan and oversee maintenance and repair operations and adherence to quality control standards;
- Inspect and resolve technical issues related to general Facility power and Electrical, Fire Life Safety Systems, Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPSs), General lighting and various projects;
- Perform final inspection and acceptance on complex projects while maintaining a well-qualified diverse workforce responsible for routine maintenance, repairs, and work on projects associated with Facility Electrical maintenance in support of operating the Link Light Rail system;
- Develop, plan and schedule maintenance management and preventive maintenance programs to ensure optimum use, sustainability and performance of light rail infrastructure;
- Ensure maintenance operations are in conformance with all contractual and regulatory requirements;
- Demonstrate positive leadership and role modeling to encourage and support staff while managing employee performance;
- Establish strategies, goals, objectives and performance indicators to improve and enhance performance as well as implement and provide direction for safety and training programs;
- Coordinate the execution of work with other agencies, utility companies, engineering firms and contractors; ensure compliance with all contract and work specifications;
- Ability to interpret labor contracts to conduct or manage staff who conduct investigations relating to complaints, litigation, union issues and other matters as they arise;
- Establish and develop collaborative relationships with Union leadership (IBEW Local 77 and Protec 17) and assist in labor negotiations and contract changes as needed;
- Ability to write technical reports, budget requests/justifications and correspondence suitable for division or department signature;
- Work with other Superintendents to resolve section-wide issues;
- Develop collaborative relationships within Light Rail and Sound Transit as well as throughout King County;
- Three years journey level experience in Electrical Maintenance with preference in the Transit industry AND at least two years of Leadership/supervisory experience OR the equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job;
- Demonstrated skill in leading and managing a highly talented employee group, while developing and applying performance and operational targets and standards;
- Must have a high level of comfort with managing unionized workforce, as well as being committed and skilled in building strong relationships with our Union partners;
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, particularly as they relate to emergency response, performance management, process and continuous improvement;
- Experienced in time management, timely decision making, and managing multiple work and projects efficiently;
- Possess current knowledge of safety principles, Metro rules/policies/procedures, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws;
- Provide supporting data and recommendations to management in the formulation of the Sections operating budget; monitor budget and manage related contracts as required;
- Empathetic people leader with demonstrated experience building effective teams in diverse work environments while inspiring trust, creating strong morale, instilling vision and purpose, and fostering open dialog;
- Necessary special requirements: Valid Driver's License (Washington license by date of hire); Skill in conflict resolution, problem solving, and negotiation; Skill in evaluating all business using an equity and social justice lens;
