The Deflection Division collaborates closely with law enforcement and various community stakeholders across Illinois to facilitate recovery from substance use, mitigate drug overdoses, and disrupt the cycle of drug-related crime. Our goal is to redirect individuals facing substance use and/or mental health challenges away from arrest and incarceration, guiding them towards supportive community resources.
We are currently seeking a full-time Deflection Specialist.
Compensation begins at $41,600, contingent upon qualifications and experience.
This role entails engaging with clients in designated communities to deliver outreach, education, and training on critical topics such as substance use disorders, available community resources, pre-arrest deflection strategies, and health insurance options. The individual in this position will represent TASC in the community, providing direct client services and fostering relationships with community partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct proactive outreach activities to deliver essential services to participants.
- Facilitate referrals to necessary direct services, including substance use treatment and recovery support.
- Participate in community events and conferences to raise awareness about law enforcement diversion and outreach initiatives.
- Assist individuals in enrolling for Medicaid when they lack insurance.
- Ensure follow-up on all participant needs and required services.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with project staff, community partners, service providers, and law enforcement agencies.
- Represent TASC at community events.
- Provide ongoing training related to program objectives and essential topics, including naloxone administration and distribution.
- Assess the needs of victims of violence and provide appropriate support.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
- Understanding of human behavior and the ability to identify signs of substance use disorders, particularly among special populations.
- CADC certification is preferred at the time of hire.
- Experience in outreach work focused on direct client services for at least one year.
- Experience in providing training or presenting at conferences is preferred.
- Familiarity with treatment and service providers in the local area is advantageous.
- Highly organized with strong multitasking and follow-up skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to engage with a diverse population.
