POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community Skills/Personal Assistant plays a vital role in supporting students with special needs throughout their educational journey and extracurricular activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and monitor students during both instructional and non-instructional periods, including lunch and transportation.
- Provide tailored instructional support to individual students or small groups as directed by the teacher, ensuring accommodations and modifications are effectively implemented.
- Assist educators in preparing classroom environments and instructional materials, maintaining student records, and performing clerical tasks as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers to design engaging lesson plans and support Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
- Help track student progress and grades, encouraging students to take ownership of their academic performance.
- Support students with behavioral management and personal hygiene practices.
- Ensure compliance with district policies during the use of instructional technology and equipment.
- Transport students to off-campus activities as required.
- Assist students during meal times as necessary.
- Employ appropriate intervention techniques to manage challenging behaviors and provide assistance during medical emergencies.
- Administer medications under appropriate guidelines and with parental consent.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Foster positive relationships between the Phoenix Union High School District and the community by maintaining professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, and Experience:
High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years of experience in a classroom setting or working with special needs children; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
Paraprofessional certification is preferred. Must obtain Red Cross or EMT Certification, CPR Certification, and Non-Violent Behavior Management Certification within 60 days of hire, and maintain current status. An active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card is required or must be obtained within the first 90 workdays.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is primarily performed in a classroom setting and throughout the school campus. The role may involve exposure to bodily fluids and contagious illnesses. Physical ability to lift up to 70 pounds is required.
